Momena Chowdhury’s three decades in acting

In 1987, noted actress Momena Chowdhury, hailed from Bogra, started her acting career by Bogra Theatre. During that time while taking part in rehearsal of a play she got an offer of a job in Takshal in Gazipur. Later she attached herself with Oboshishto Monchayon Parishad in Gazipur. Under the banner of that theatre troupe her performances in three shows of a play titled Prottyashito Prolap was highly appreciated to all the viewers.
In 1990, Momena attached herself with popular theatre troupe, Aronnyok. She started to work with this troupe by a play titled Iblish.
Till now she has been attached with this group on the stage. Under the banner of Aronnyok Momena Chowdhury performed in many plays like Songkranti, Moyur Singhashon, Ebong Biddyasagor, Prakrito Jonokotha, etc.
But the play Lal Jamin is her one of the best achievements in her career, Momena pointed out. On March 31 at 7:30pm the play is scheduled to be staged its 100th show at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Sudip Chakraborty will give direction of the play based on a single actor under the story written by Mannan Hira. Momena Chowdhury is the solo performer in this play.
On May 18 in 2011, Lal Jamin was first time staged at Natmondal of Dhaka University.
Later this play was staged for 99 times in 37 districts of the country including remote areas and outside Bangladesh, West Bengal and Tripura of India, London and New York.
While sharing her feelings about the 100th stage of Lal Jamin Momena Chowdhury told this correspondent, “It is really a great luck for me to get the opportunity to perform in any play for 100 times. I am grateful to Allah. I am also grateful to them who cooperated me in my 30 years long acting career. I am really excited and glad about the 100th stage of the play.”
It may be mentioned that Momena Chowdhury first acted in the small screen in a play titled Bukey Jokhon Bongoposagor, which was produced by Ali Imam. Momena acted first TV serial was Alauddin Ahmed produced Itikotha, which story was written by Mamunur Rashid.
