Mohila Awami League on Friday demanded removal and trial of the Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha for making “derogatory remarks” against the Jatiya Sangsad, especially women parliament members.
The leaders of the organization alleged that the CJ in his remarks in the observation of the 16th Amendment verdict had particularly undermined the women lawmakers.
The demands of removal and trail of CJ came from a human chain organized by the Mohila Awami League, an associate organization of the ruling party, in front
of the Jaitya Press Club in the city from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
“Country’s women will not tolerate the derogatory remarks made by the CJ against the women lawmakers. So, we’ll continue our movement until he is removed and tried for this act,” President of the organization Safia Khatun said.
Expressing solidarity with the women leaders, Joint General Secretary of Awami League Abdur Rahman said, “The CJ has given unnecessary, irrelevant and confusing statements in the observation of 16th Amendment verdict. We think it was preconceived.”
“Whereas the BNP is doing anti-government politics centering the verdict. It’s a big question whether this verdict has been taken as a strategy to collapse the government… The CJ will have to bear the responsibility of the conflict that aroused after the verdict was pronounced. He will have to show the path to overcome the crisis,” Rahman said.
Echoing the same, AL central committee member and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said, “BNP leaders are giving false statements over the verdict. They are now doing politics using the Supreme Court.”
General Secretary of the Mohila Awami League Mahmuda Begum Krik urged the country’s women to take part in the movement demanding removal of the CJ.
Demanding his resignation, the Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad claimed that the CJ had threatened Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by citing the reference of a Pakistan court order that disqualified their Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
