Mohammedan Sporting Club advanced to second position beating their arch rival Abahani Ltd by a solitary goal in their tenth encounter of the Manyavar Bangladesh Premier League at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
With this result, Mohammedan SC earned 20 points with six wins, two draws and two losses while Abahani is in the fifth position bagging 17 points with five wins, two draws and three losses.
After the barren first half, the days match was likely to end in draw until Ibrahim scored the match winner for Mohammedan SC at the dead end 90th minutes of the match utilising a curved free kick off goalie Ashraful Haque Rana which deceived Abahani defender Obum Hnery and onrushing Ibrahim collected the ball to place into the far post net.
Earlier, Mohammedan SC forward Ismael Bangoura created an opportunity in the 12th of the match making his way to the defence but failed to receive a corner of Towhidul Alam Sobuj.
Abahani came close to a strike in the 14th minute but Mohammedan goalie Ashraful Huq Rana came forward to foil Ghanaian forward Osei Morrison’s shot, in the rebound Anahani forward Wahed hit a defender and the ball went for a corner.
Abahani goalie Ziaur Rahman saved his side nicely in the 42nd minute diveing to his left to grip a strong header off Ismael Baobgoura.
Just after the two minutes of the second half, Abahani was ruing when Osie Morrison’s 20- yarder hit the crosspiece.
In the 55th minute Abahani defender Samad Yousuf saved his team from a sure goal when he cleared a shot of Ibrahim from the goalline.
