Modern technology needed for boosting agri production

Speakers at a daylong workshop said substantial and sustainable expansion of modern technology has become an urgent need for boosting agricultural production to ensure food security of the country’s gradually increasing population.
They viewed the field level officials and staffs concerned should take the responsibilities of reaching the modern and high yielding crop varieties and technologies to the farmers doorsteps so that they can derive total benefits of those.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) organized the workshop titled “Using of Modern Technologies in boosting Agricultural Production” held at the auditorium of Physical Education College in Rajshahi yesterday.
More than 300 Block, Upazila and District level DAE officials and others concerned attended the workshop and learnt knowledge and ideas of modern technologies and improved crop varieties of various food crops. They also shared views how to disseminate the acquired knowledge among the grassroots farmers.
Akhteruzzaman, Director (Plant Protection Wing) of DAE addressed the inaugural session as chief guest with Additional Director Nurul Amin in the chair.
DAE Deputy Director Abul Kalam Azad, District Training Officer Saiful Islam, Senior Scientific Officer of BINA Dr Hossain Ali, Joint Director of BADC Arif Hossain Khan, Senior Scientific Officer of BARI Sakhawat Hossain and Senior Scientific Officer of SRDI Mahbubur Rahman also spoke.
The speakers said the present government has attained remarkable success in agriculture sector and urged the officials concerned to put in their collective efforts to uphold the success in the days ahead.
They said more time-fitting measures has to be taken for boosting agricultural productions for ensuring food security amid adverse impacts of climate changes.
The role of agriculture sector is very vital towards making the country’s economy functional alongside ensuring food security. They called upon the field level officials to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty.
The government has attached highest priority to the agriculture sector and added that the field level officials and researchers should take the responsibilities of reaching the government’s services to the farmers’ doorsteps.
They, however, said the agriculture system of the region including its drought-prone barind tract has started facing problems especially water- stress condition due to multifarious reasons including the adverse impact of climate change.
So, there is no way but to adopt modern technologies to protect the farming practice from further endangered condition after addressing the constraints to ensure food security of the nation in the days ahead.
