A modern garments village with updated technology consists of 500 garments factories is going to be constructed in the proposed Specialised Economic Zone (SEZ) in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram very shortly.
This garments village is designed as latest technology enriched garments zone not only in Bangladesh as elsewhere in the Asia. While talked with the medias in Chittagram, BEZA Consultant Abdul Kader Khan told that this garments village will have advantages of all types of infrastructure facilities aimed at building a model garments village across the country. Following the establishment of this model garments village, the scenario of garments sector and the overall scenario of Mirsarai Upazila will be changed to maximum extents.
He further disclosed that at least one lakh unemployed persons will get jobs in the garments village. He also said about 60 garments factories are being transferred from Gazipur, Narayangong , Savar and Dhaka in this zone. Mentionable that two pioneer buyers global buyer Archd of Europe and Alliance of North America also proposed to shift these garments factories outside Dhaka earlier.
Out of these 60 RMG units, some units remain inoperative and some partly operating and this unoperative RMG units will be brought in Mirsarai Economic zone. The RMG sector will get new life after commissioning of the garments village of Mirsarai.
Sources said RMG units in the proposed garments village will get lead time facilities of exporting the RMG products abroad due to less distance of Chittagong Port.
According to entrepreneurs , after operations in the garments village, the GDP in exports will hike by more 4% and employment opportunities for one lack unemployed youths.
The BEZA consultant hoped that following the agreement between BEZA and BGMEA, land development works, power and gas line installation works in the proposed MEZ progressing fast and these development works are expected to be completed by next one year.
According to BEZA and BGMEA sources, lands in the Garments village will be leased out to the entrepreurs for 50 years term .
He said the primary phase work of the economic zone started with 500 acres of land which is expected to be expanded upto 2000 acres gradually.
Sources further said that every entrepreneur will be allotted one acre of land with estimated price of Tk.one crore with easy installment payment system. In the meantime, the intending entrepreneurs have already deposited 25% price of the land as booking money to BGMEA fund .
Mentionable that an agreement between BEZA and BGMEA concerning the lease of land and transfer of land to entrepereurs was signed in Dhaka on March 22 last and according to deal, BGMEA deposited Tk.100 crores to BEZA fund.
The BEZA consultant further told that all the RMG units in the proposed Garments village will be installed as per prescriptions of two buryers group i.e. Alliance and Arcade.
