The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday placed model and former TV presenter Faria Mahbub Piyasha on a two-day remand in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on the charge of rape and murder of college student Mosharat Jahan Munia.
Magistrate Nivana Khair Jessy of the CMM Court of Dhaka passed the order after hearing on Sunday.
Earlier, Investigation Officer of the case PBI Inspector Golam Mukter Md Ashraful Islam pleaded for seven days remand
for Piyasha while the defence lawyer sought bail cancelling the remand plea. But the prosecution opposed the bail plea.
On September 6, Munia’s sister Nusrat Jahan filed the case with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 of Dhaka on the charges of rape and murder. The court directed the PBI to investigate the case. Eight people including Faria Mahbub Piyasha have been made accused in the case.
On the other hand, model Piyasha is behind the bar in a narcotics case and PBI showed her arrested in the Munia murder case.
Munia was an eleven grade student of Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College. She hailed from Cumilla. The police recovered her hanging body on the night of April 26 from a flat at Gulshan in the city.
