Mobile courts to remove markets from highways suggested

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Road Transport and Bridges Ministry on Wednesday suggested the government operate mobile courts to remove markets from the country’s highways and thus ease traffic jams.
It also suggested the ministry expedite the ongoing work on the Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane highway project as well as upgrade the traffic system.
The parliamentary watchdog made the recommendations at its 4th meeting, held at Jatiya Sangsad with committee chairman Ekabbar Hossain in the chair.
The activities and action plan of Bangladesh Road and Transport Corporation (BRTC) also came up for discussions at the meeting.
It was said, at the meeting that the Planning Ministry has already approved in principle the Preliminary Development Project Proforma (PDPP) to procure 300 double-decker and 100 articulated buses for easing traffic congestions in the capital.
