Chittagong Bureau :
A mobile court on Wednesday fined three brick kilns at Rauzan upazila of the district for causing pollution and operating the plants without licenses.
Officials familiar with the drives said an executive magistrate conducted the mobile court and fined the owners of the three brick fields an amount worth Taka 3 lakh for running the kilns without official approvals and defying environmental laws.
“They were running the fields illegally also burning timber in defiance of environmental laws . . . they did not have any effluent treatment plants (ETP) either,” an official of the upazila administration said.
Executive Magistrate Tamim Al Yamin led the drive with police help while he also handed down 21 days imprisonment to two employees of a plant.
Brickfields require environment clearance license, license from the deputy commissioner (DC) and permission from Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institute, sources said.
