Mob blocks Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, demands electricity

Local people staged protests blocking the Dhaka-Sylhet highway for uninterrupted power supply.
Residents of the Tazpur area at Osmani Nagar Upazila in Sylhet started protests on the highway on Sunday (July 18) at 10 pm to 12 am against frequent power cuts in the area amid the summer heat.
As a result of this, Traffic congestion for at least 10 km area, causing passengers to suffer.
Besides, the protesters chanted slogans against the Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Palli Vidyut Osmaninagar office Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury’s dismissal.
Osmaninagar Upazila Awami League organizing Secretary Ana Mia said that residents of several villages blocked the highway to demand electricity. “We have explained to the protesters and requested them to lift the blockade, the traffic flow is normal.
Sylhet’s Osmaninagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Main Uddin said around 12:30 am, the political leaders requested the crowd and normalized traffic on the Highway.
