Voicing grave concern over the return of Bangladeshi women from Saudi Arabia after sexual harassment, Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) on Tuesday urged the government to take steps to resolve the problem bilaterally.
“Authorities concerned of Bangladesh can’t shirk the responsibility for the sexual harassment of the Bangladeshi female workers who went to Saudi Arabia as domestic helps following joint commitment of the two countries,” MJF Executive Director Shaheen Anam said in a statement.
Citing media reports, she said over 100 women, who faced torture, are waiting at shelter centres in Saudi Arabia for returning home.
Shaheen Anam said a number of countries, including the Philippines and Indonesia, have stopped sending female workers to Saudi Arabia following such type of torture.
She said, MJF thinks the government should take effective measures to realise dues, compensation and medical expenses of the victims from the employers in Saudi Arabia.
The organisation also urged the government to place the issue of taking responsibility of the children of those got pregnant following sexual harassment to the Saudi government.
