Missing Sarishabari mayor found in Sreemangal

Police on Wednesday rescued the mayor of Sharishabari municipality of Jamalpur district in an unconscious state with his hands and legs tied up in two days after he went missing from the capital’s Uttara.
Md Rokonuzzaman Rokon, 40, was mysteriously found in a tea garden of Kalighat in Srimongol upazila of Moulvibazar district about 1:30pm, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting Md Shahjalal, Superintendant of Police (SP) in the district.
Rokon went missing after he went out for a walk from his residence in around 9:30am on Monday, Sayed AZ Morshed Ali, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Sharishabari upazila.
Srimangal Police Station Office-in-Charge (OC) KM Nazrul said, “Unidentified men from a microbus dropped the mayor in a tea garden around 3:30am. On information, we went to the spot and brought him to the police station.” The mayor’s hands and legs were tied up, the police official said.
His mobile phone was switched off since then, he said. We will interrogate him about the missing incident, according to the OC.
“We are investigating into the missing incident with the priority to mayor election backed by the BNP, the suspension of a municipal official, marriage, business and property matters,” he said.
Rukon’s first wife Qamrunnahar Happy said, “Police informed us about the matter. He might be taken to Dhaka.”
Mayou’s brother Saiful’s Islam Tukun filed a General Diary (GD) with Uttara West Police Station on Tuesday.
Rokonuzzaman married his elder brother’s sister-in-law Shahana Yasmin Mousumi about six months ago and started living with her in the city residence though his first wife Kamrunnahar continued to live with his two children at Sharishabari upazila.
Rokon goes to Sharishabari for office work only one in the whole week after the second marriage, it mentioned.
