Police on Monday recovered the body of a local leader of Jubo League from a waterbody at Laxmidar Para in Ramganj upazila, six days after he went missing, being chased by police.
Local people said a patrol team of police led by sub-inspector Zahirul Islam of Ramganj Police Station gave a signal to a motorcycle carrying Russel, President of Bholakot Ward unit Jubo League and son of Noab Ali, at Bholakot area around 9 pm on Wednesday.
Russel ran away leaving behind his motorcycle. Sensing mysterious, the law enforcers chased Russel and did not find his whereabouts. Being chased by the
police, Russel went missing since then and Russel’s clothes were found at Debnagar field on the following day, claimed local people.
Fatema Begum, mother of Russel filed a general diary with the police station on Sunday.
Seeing Russel’s body on a waterbody on Monday morning, local people informed the matter to police who recovered the body of Russel at noon and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Being agitated, local people brought out a procession demanding arrest and punishment of the accused policemen. Shariful Islam, additional superintendent of Laxmipur police said legal action will be taken against those involved in the incident after investigation.
Zahidur Rahman Jewel, president of Bholakot union unit Jubo League, said the body bore several injury marks while the neck of Russel was broke down. However, Tota Mia, officer-in-charge of Ramganj Police Station denied the allegation brought against his fellows.
