Missing cop’s burned body found in Gazipur

An official of Special Branch (SB) of Police has been reportedly burnt to death by unidentified assailants in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur district.
The cop official has been identified as Mamun Imran Khan, Inspector of Dhaka Special Branch, Our Gazipur Correspondent reports after quoting locals and Police.
The burnt body wrapped in a sack was recovered from a forest in Rayerdia area of the upazila on Tuesday. He went missing from his brother’s house at Sabujbagh area of the capital last Sunday.
Md Harun ur Rashid, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Gazipur, said, locals saw the burnt body wrapped in a sack at Rayerdia village in Ulukhola area of the forest zone.
Assailants might have killed Mamun burning alive and dumped the body in the forest, the police official said.
Being informed police recovered the body and sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College for autopsy, the SP said.
Pangkaj Dutta, Additional SP (Kaliganj circle) of Gazipur, told The New Nation on Tuesday evening, “We are investigating whether he was burnt before or after death.”
He later claimed that miscreants might have burnt him as nobody identified the body.
Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abu Bakar Mia said that the body was burnt and decomposed.
Ulukhola Police Outpost In-Charge and Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Golam Mowla said the locals found a body in a sack and informed us around 1:30pm.
He also said that Mamun went missing around three days ago.
Seeking anonymous, a local said that a minor boy found that a man was burnt alive to death in the forest on Monday evening.
