‘Missing BNP man’s’ skeleton found in Kushtia

Police recovered the skeleton of a local BNP man, who remained missing since June last year, from under earth on the bank of the Gorai River in Kumarkhali upazila on Wednesday night.
Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kumarkhali Police Station, said Mirajul Islam Miraj, owner of a brick kiln and activist of BNP and son of Abdul Goni of Lahinipara in Kumarkhali upazila, had gone missing while returning home from Lahini Battala More on June 4, 2015. Shokhi Khatun, wife of Miraj, lodged a general diary with Kumarkhali Police Station on the following day, which later turned into a murder case.
Later, police arrested seven people following the case. Of them, six are now in jail while the rest one secured bail. Of the detainees, prime accused Soleman made a confessional statement before a court under Section 164 on January 19 this year. Police along with him launched a drive but could not recover Miraj’s body.
Recently, police arrested another accused, Alamgir, and based on his confessional statement during remand, they recovered the skeleton of Miraj digging earth on the Gorai river bank around 9:30 pm.
However, contacted, Miraj’s wife Shokhi said whether it was her husband’s skeleton could not be confirmed yet.
