Immigration officers at the Dhaka airport have allegedly barred missing BNP leader Ilias Ali’s wife from leaving for the UK to attend her son’s graduation ceremony. The former MP has been missing since 2012.
One of the BNP’s then organising secretaries, Ilias Ali and his driver Ansar Ali went missing on April 18 of that year. Police found his car abandoned in Mohakhali.
Family members and the BNP alleged that he had been picked up from Banani by men in plainclothes.
The BNP blames the government for his disappearance, but the government denies it.
Ali’s wife Tahsina Rushdir Luna said she was supposed to leave for London with her two other children on a Biman Bangladesh flight on Sunday.
“After keeping us waiting for one and a half hours at the immigration, I was told that the children can go, but not me,” she said.
Luna said, her eldest son Abrar Ilias graduated from the University of West England, Bristol. She was on her way to join the graduation ceremony scheduled for next week.
