The miscreants cut at least 20 trees from the South campus of Chittagong University (CU) on Tuesday night. The administration of CU is yet to take any action against the miscreants who cut the trees.
Sources said, a group of miscreants are engaged in cutting trees at the CU campus regularly due to the lack of security measures. Besides, the ruling party’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and activists were allegedly involved with the cutting of trees at the CU campus which is open secret there.
It is reported that in the current year, the miscreants cut at least 100 trees in the current year. But, the CU administration did not take any action against the miscreants so far. However, the miscreants cut the at least 20 trees again from the South campus of CU.
Registrar of CU Prof Dr Kamrul Huda said, “We have heard the news of cutting trees at South Campus of CU. Besides, we had got information in connection with cutting trees at the campus several months before. We formed an investigation committee and took action against the security officials of CU at that time.
The action was taken as the security officials failed to resist the cutting of trees by the miscreants. He claimed intensifying the security measures at CU campus.
“More 250 security persons will be deployed at the campus very soon.
I hope that the cutting of trees by the miscreants will be stopped after tightening the security measures at CU campus.” Sources said some corrupted security officials and staffs of CU along with some leaders and activists of BCL are allegedly involved with the cutting of trees at CU campus.
