UNB, Bogura :
A group of miscreants cut off a housewife’s hand and beat five others as they refused to give them extortion money at Koigari village in Dhunat upazila on Monday morning.
The victim is Sahena Begum, 50, wife of farmer Kapil Uddin of the village.
Locals said thieves took away the solar panel’s battery of Rashel Memorial Association (club) around three months back.
Following this incident, to buy a new battery, Al-Amin, 24, son of Rashid Mia and Biplob Mia, 25, son of Azahar Ali demanded subscription of Tk 100 to Rubel, son of Kapil Uddin of the village.
But Rubel disagreed to pay the money as he is not a member of the club. For this reason, the group numbering 15/20 attacked him while Rubel’s family members came to save him.
The miscreants group beat all of them. At one stage, Al-Amin hacked Sahena Begum with sharp weapon, cutting off her hand from the elbow.
Later, they dumped the detached hand into the nearby pond and fled the scene, locals said.
On information, Gaziur Rahman, additional superintendent of Sherpur police circle, visited the spot and recovered some locally made sharp weapons along with the detached hand from the spot.
Police arrested Al-Amin, Biplob and Rony for allegedly involvement in this attack, said Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Dhunat Police Station.
A case would be field with the police station in this connection, the OC added.
