Tarafdar Monirul Islam (45), a UP member of Ward No.02 of Gotapara Union Parishad under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district was chapped with sharp knives by some unknown assailants on a by-pass road of Muniganj bridge that connects Bagerhat district town with Gotapara Union Parishad at Saturday night (at about 8 pm). As a result, he was fatally injured. He was at first rushed to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for his treatment. But considering his precarious condition he was shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital at the same night for better treatment.
It is learnt from Shamsher Ali, UP Chairman of Gotapara that the victim UP member was returning to his Muniganj residence (within Bagerhat district town) from his own village Bhatsla after throwing an Iftar party in a mosque at the night along with his wife and a minor daughter by a battery run van rickshaw and when he reached the place of occurrence the unknown assailants who earlier laid ambush there fell on him all on a sudden and began to chap him with sharp knives left and right.
When his wife tried to save her husband the miscreants also injured her and his 2 years old daughter was thrown on the road. At one stage when they (UP member and his wife) cried out loudly the miscreants fled away leaving the UP member fatally injured.
