Misappropriation of Tk 25 cr from bank, one held while fleeing to India

Benapole Port police on Thursday night arrested Babul Akhter, wanted in 10 cases including misappropriation of Tk 25 crore from Benapole branch, Islami Bank Limited, while he was attempting to flee to India.
Apurba Hasan, Officer in-charge, Benapole port police station told that police picked up Babul Akhter while he was attempting to flee to India through Benapole frontier. ‘He is wanted in 10 cases and also an accused in several other cases,’ he added.
Local sources and police said, Babul Akhter, son of Late Bazle Rahman of Bahadurpur under Benapole port police station misappropriated Tk 25 crore from Islami Bank, Benapole branch after taking the amount as loan in favour of Messer’s Joint Silver Traders, Benapole showing fake documents. The money was allotted on 22 September, 2004. Abdus Sobhan, branch manager, Islami Bank filed a case with a Jessore court on May 22, 2007 in this connection. The police registered the case after investigation on July 1, 2014.
