An 18-month-old girl has died allegedly after taking juice served by her estranged father at Tongi of the city.
The deceased was identified as Fetema Begum, daughter of Dulal Miah of Sundail village under Nandail upazila of Mymensingh district.
On information, police recovered the body on Tuesday morning and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tongi Police Station.
Victim’s mother Sufia Begum said she married Dulal, son of Abdur Rahman, eight years back. The couple used to work in a factory staying in Gopalpur of Tongi.
However, they got separated one year ago following a marital discord. Since then, she used to keep their daughter with her.
On Monday, Dulal came to her house and gave juice to Fatema. However, she fell sick after taking the juice.
Fatema was taken to a hospital where doctors declared her dead, she added.
The OC said they were interrogating Sufia over the incident.
