Ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers of Sheikh Hasina-led new government have started assuming office. Staff at the respective ministries greeted the new ministers when they arrived in office on Monday. Nurul Islam Nahid, back to his education ministry, interacted with the education ministry’s officials around 9.15am on Monday. Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman Fizar arrived in office as well. Fizar was a minister of state for land in the last cabinet. Most new ministers were slated to interact with their departments’ officials on the first day of taking charge. The Awami League government began its second successive tenure on Sunday with a 49-member cabinet with Sheikh Hasina the Prime Minister, 29 full ministers, 17 state ministers and 2 deputy ministers. Twelve ministers and state ministers retained their earlier posts. AMA Muhith, Matia Chowdhury, Syed Ashraful Islam, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Obaidul Quader, Hasanul Haq Inu, Nurul Islam Nahid, Shajahan Khan and Mazibul Haq got their previous portfolios. Ansiul Islam Mahmud, who was water resources minister of the interim poll-time government, also retained the same post. Abdul Latif Siddiqui. Mohammad Nasim, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Principal Matiur Rahman, AKM Mozammel, Md Sayedul Haq, Emaj Uddin Pramanik, Anwar Hossain Manju, Anisul Haq, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, AHM Mostofa Kamal, Asaduzzaman Noor, Syed Mohsin Ali, Shamsur Rahman Sharif Dilu and Md Kamrul Islam got new portfolios. Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed and Rashed Khan Menon who were ministers in the multi-party poll-time government were also given new portfolios. Among the ministers of state, Yeafesh Osman, Meher Afroz Chumki and Promod Mankin retained their previous departments – ICT, women and children affairs, social welfare respectively. Other state ministers MA Mannan, Mirza Azam, Mujibul Haq Chunnu, Bir Bahadur, Narayan Chandra Chanda, Biren Sikder, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed, Ismat Ara Sadeq, Shahriar Alam, Jahid Malek Swapan, Nasrul Hamid Bipu and Junaid Ahmed Polok got new portfolios. Besides, Abdullah Al Islam Jacob and Arif Khan Joy were made deputy ministers of water resources and youth and sports affairs ministries respectively.
