One of the biggest stars in the Tollywood cinema Mimi Chakraborty began her career with the path-breaking
television serial, Gaaner Oparey, which was visualised by the late great Rituparno Ghosh and starred illustrious personalities like Srijit Mukerji, Aparajita Adhya, Kaushik Sen, Dipankar De, Alokananda Roy and many more. Since then, she has starred in multiple blockbuster hits and established herself as one of the leading Tollywood actresses. Today, the actress is in a celebratory mood as her latest movie, Mini hits theatres. Mini is a slice-of-life drama which stars Mimi in the lead role opposite Ayanna Chatterjee. Mini is the brainchild of Mainak Bhaumik and talks about growing up, shouldering responsibilities and motherhood.
In an exclusive interview with Filmfare, Mimi Chakraborty spoke about the movie and taking responsibility in life. “See, for a very long time we have always expected women to be inside our house and that they are suited in that way probably, ‘they are meant to be that way.’ Our mothers have to cook for us, raise us but at the same time, we have not thanked them for a very long time. We always thought that the inside jobs of the house, managing the kitchen or the home, raising the kids has probably no credit in life but now when we are becoming mothers or are seeing our friends becoming mothers, we realise the issues they face while raising their children and so much more. Now we know how difficult it is to raise a kid in the family and at the same time run the household. We see what our mothers did for us and we celebrate Mother’s Day, of course, but we never celebrate or thank our mother for what they have done throughout their life for us. For them their motive was family. It was her children, her husband…,” Mimi says.
“So this film (Mini) is a tribute to motherhood, parenthood and also seeing that to be a friend is very easy but when a responsibility comes on you; like if a mother says someday ki ‘you behave like a mother’ or ‘try to step in my shoes and see what I have done,’ so that’s how things get difficult when a responsibility comes and sits on your back. So yeah, Mini is a story about emotions, a little bit of drama and tears. It is an amalgamation of a lot of Bengali emotions, a Bengali house story and yeah I hope people will like it and it’s already out in theatres from today and I would like people to book their tickets,” she added.
