Minhazuddin, Shakil win 1st round of GM Chess

IM Minhazuddin Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy and IM Abu Sufan Shakil of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited won their first round game in the CJKS-Prime Distributions Group Grandmasters Chess Tournament now being held at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong.
In the 1st round games, held on Thursday last, Minhaz beat IM Somak Palit of India and Shakil beat IM Akshat Khamparia of India. Minhaz played with white pieces against French defense of Somak and continued to Tarrasch Variation and won at 34th moves.
Shakil played with black pieces in the Modern Benoni game and won after 41st moves.
WGM Toma Katarzyana of Poland drew with GM Niaz Murshed of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited. Niaz played with white pieces against Grunfeld Defense, at 27th moves. Niaz offered drew in a better position of Toma and Toma accepted the offer.
Highest rated player of the event GM Abdullah Al-Rakib of Bangladesh Navy drew with GM Vahidov Tair of Uzbekistan. Rakib played with black pieces against English opening of Tair. Tair offered drew at 10 moves and Rakib agreed. FM Sk Nasir Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy drew with his teammate FM Kh Aminul Islam.
A total of 10 players including three grandmasters, four International Masters, two FIDE Maters and an Woman Grandmaster from Bangladesh, India, Poland and Uzbekistan are participating in the event.
