AP, Mexico City :

Mexico national team coach Miguel Herrera says Wednesday that he has renewed his contract to stay in charge of the team until 2018.
Herrera replaced Victor Manuel Vucetich in October 2013 and was the country’s fourth appointment in the space of two months.
Vucetich lasted just two games before he was fired in the aftermath of a 2-1 defeat to Costa Rica that forced Mexico into a World Cup playoff.
Herrera led Mexico to a 9-3 aggregate win over New Zealand, which saw La Verde qualify for the 2014 finals.
Mexico reached the second round in Brazil, but was eliminated by the Netherlands in the round of 16. It’s the sixth consecutive time that Mexico has reached the second round, but failed to progress any further.
