Proper measurement and production of quality goods play an important role in expansion of trade and commerce. Public awareness about importance of measurement science is linked to success, said Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu.
He said it at a discussion meeting organized in the city on the occasion of the ‘World Metrology Day 2015’ in the head office of Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute (BSTI) in the city on Wednesday.
The minister further said, actually, light science is the most important discipline in the 21st century. Massive changes have been brought in the medical and the agriculture science by the use of modern light technology.
BSTI organized the programme to observe the ‘World Metrology Day 2015’. International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) are also observing the day.
The theme of the Metrology Day in this year is `Measurements and Light. The topic was chosen to align with the UNESCO International Year of Light and Light based technologies 2015. A global initiative is designed to highlight the key role of light, while optical technologies play in daily life and their importance for the sustainable development of society.
The minister hoped that BSTI would ensure proper use of measurement in all sectors and applies modern and technical knowledge to face global challenges.
Addressing the function, the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Kazi Akramuddin Ahmed said, electricity and measurement are very important for sustainable development.
The business leader hoped that the people would be able to attain desired progress by using electricity proportionately and international measurement.
Industry Secretary Mosarraf Hossain Bhuiyan hoped that BSTI would play an appropriate role in implementation of all programmes undertaken by the government for attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Director General of BSTI Ikramul Haque presided over the meeting.
