On behalf of the government and the people of Iran, I would like to extend my heartfelt greetings to the government and the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Every year on the 11th February, the Iranian people gather around to commemorate the greatest achievement in the history of Iran; the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 led by Imam Khomeini(R). The revolution had a huge impact on the social, cultural, and political atmosphere within Iran. It brought the sense of self-sufficiency, self-reliance, and sovereignty to the spirit of the Iranian people.
Many years later after the Revolution and even today, “a few bullying powers” repeatedly attempt to undermine the Islamic Republic’s sovereignty through sanctions and threats. However, Iran managed to persevere through strong leadership and the determination of her people. Despite the efforts of hostile entities, the Islamic Republic of Iran signed an agreement with the P5+1 on the 16th January 2016 which was no ordinary feat. However, our enemies are still trying to spoil our achievements through their conspiracies, but Iran pushes forward with motivation.
Recently, some people in Iran held protests in some cities within Iran. Such occurrences are natural in any democratic country and are a sign that people have a right to protest. As a matter of fact, the Iranian Constitution reserves the right for the people to voice their concerns through peaceful protests. The price hikes and weaknesses in the economy are the issues we have to face together all as one. It is unfortunate to see that hostile foreign powers used this moment as an excuse to mislead the people and catalyze disorder. I am happy to say that the entire world has witnessed these unjust actions. We have foiled their nefarious scheme through the unity of the people and their sound judgment.
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy is very clear regarding other countries’ affairs. Interference has no place in our policies, and likewise Iran will not allow anyone to interfere in its domestic affairs. We stand against all kinds of oppression, injustice, and discrimination. Our foreign policy dictates that we stand with the victims of oppressors. That is why the Iranian government rushed to the aid of the Rohingya refugees fleeing the inhuman torture and persecution in Myanmar. With the collaboration of the Bangladesh government, my country has built a number of clinics to provide the refugees with immediate medical relief. Our support firmly lies with the Bangladesh government’s initiative to repatriate the refugees to their home country.
Iran and Bangladesh share manifold cultural and historical roots dating back many centuries. Iran established its diplomatic mission soon after Bangladesh’s independence. Our bilateral relations are stronger than ever, because our governments share many common goals such as the eradication of terrorism. We can strengthen our ties even further in the realms of education, culture, and economy. Exchanging delegations comprised of high government officials and cultural icons is a start to expand our relations even further. There are many opportunities we may seize to increase business ventures that can mutually benefit both nations. I hope that this dream can be achieved in the near future when both nations share an even stronger bond with each other.
