State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki urged the meritorious students to join politics to serve the nation.
“You all want to be doctors and engineers, not politicians. But if the politicians want, they can resolve all problems of the people in society,” she told students on Wednesday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting at Shaukat Osman auditorium of Public Library in the city.
Bangladesh Medha Bikash Society organized the discussion on ‘Role of Meritorious People in Building a Developed Nation’.
Presided over by Bangladesh Awami Swadhinata League President Dr. Khandaker Imdadul Haq Selim, the meeting was also addressed by City and Municipality Employees Federation Secretary General SM Mosharraf Hossain Milon, Mehedi Electronics Company Managing Director Lion M Mehedi Hassan, Kazi Firoze Rashid Securities Limited Managing Director Kazi Soyeb Rashid and Nilphamari Sadar Upazila Vice-Chairman Arifa Sultana Lavli, among others.
Following the discussion, a reception was accorded to students who got GPA-5 in this year’s SSC and Dakhil examinations.
The state minister awarded the meritorious students with crests. She appreciated the students for their success in examinations despite political adversities and advised them to continue studies to keep up their good results.
Meher Afroze Chumki said many meritorious politicians like Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman changed the history of the world after joining politics.
“We have got an independent country because of the pragmatic politics of Bangabandhu,” she added.
She hoped that the meritorious students would work with honesty and sincerity in future to build a golden Bangladesh as dreamt by Bangabandhu and 30 lakh martyrs. The state minister highlighted various government programmes aimed at developing a meritorious nation and condemned destructive political programmes affecting academic activities and creating anarchy in the country.
