Men’s role to empower women stressed

Justice Zinat Ara of Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Saturday said men’s role is most important for empowering women in the country.
“The present time is the time of equality. The way women have dedicated themselves as one of the tools of production in the continuation of development, is a regulator of progress and also a driving force behind progress of economy,” she said.
Justice Zinat Ara said these while addressing a programme organized by Dakkhin Bangla Women Lawyer Association at Supreme Court marking International Women’s Day.
Presided over by association president Advocate Suraia Begum, the programme was also addressed by Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Secretary Kamrun Nahar, Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Farzana Islam, Supreme Court Bar Association President Advocate Zainul Abedin and its General Secretary AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, among others. “The matter of equal rights for the women has been ensured in the constitution. The matter of women protection has been given priority in different acts and many special laws have been formulated in this regard,” Justice Zinat Ara added.
