Mehedi sets up victory for Gazi Group in DPL

Right-arm off break bowler Mehedi Hasan fierce bowling spell enabled Gazi Group Cricketers to register a comfortable 43 runs victory over Brothers Union Club in Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League held on Monday at BKSP ground in Savar.
Chasing a mediocre target of 168 runs set by Gazi Group, Brothers Union Club found the chase very stiff and fell short as they were bundled out for 124 in 40.1 overs.
Skipper Tushar Imran however offered some resistance in Brothers Union’s depilated innings scoring a defiant 41 runs off 81 balls with two fours and two sixes. While none of the other Brothers Union batsmen could not build any effective partnership losing wickets at regular intervals while chasing a small total.
Mehedi Hasan caused the major damage picking up four Brothers Union’s wicket conceding 16 runs while Mohammad Sharif, Alok Kapali and Gurkeerat Singh chipped in with two wickets each.
Earlier, Gazi Group Cricketers skipper Alok Kapali won the toss and opted to bat first. His decision seemed to pay dividends as his side got off to flier as their openers put on 70 for no loss in 14 overs. Brother bowlers fought back to capture half of Gazi side. Anamul Haque’s 46 in 52 with three fours and four sixes was the highest scorer in Gazi’s paltry total of 167 for all in 35.2 overs.
Tushar Imran grabbed four wickets for 27 in four overs. He was well supported by Iftekhar Sajjad who claimed three wickets conceding 33 runs. Besides, Asif Hasan and Nabil Samad chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Mehedi Hasan of Gazi group was named the player of the match for his brilliant bowling performance.
