One of the key accused in Abrar murder case Mehedi Hasan Robein confessed to a magistrate on Monday that he led the attack first on Buet student Abrar Fahad on the night of October 7.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain recorded the statement of Mehedi for around four hours after DB Inspector MD Wahiduzzaman, also investigation officer of the case, took the accused at his chamber, court sources said.
Mehedi, suspended organising secretary of Buet unit BCL, also confessed that he first started punching and kicking Abrar, the sources said.
With Mehedi, a total of five accused have so far given their confessional statements to different magistrates on different dates in connection with the case.
A total of 19 Chhatra League leaders of Buet unit have so far been arrested and of them, 15 are First Information Report (FIR) named accused and the rest four are suspected. Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering, was beaten to death reportedly by Chhatra League leaders at Sher-e-Bangla hall on October 7.
