Staff Reporter :The Meghalaya police on Saturday postponed the proceedings of Salahuddin’s case due to his illness. They won’t produce him before court until they get medical certificate, according to Indian media reports. The police was schedule to produce Salahuddin before the court on Saturday. But, they did not do it considering his health condition. Salahuddin Ahmed, joint secretary general of BNP, is now in a prisoner cell of Shillong Civil Hospital of the Indian state of Meghalaya. He was arrested in Shillong on May 11, over two months after his missing, on charge of trespassing to India. Meghalaya Police filed case against him under the Foreigners Act.Meanwhile, Salauddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed along with other family members left Dhaka for Shillong on Saturday. Hasina would be deciding on whether to appoint a legal counsel to fight for the release of her husband Abdul Latif Jony, said BNP joint office secretary Abdul Latif Jony. Jony, who is now staying in India and visited the BNP leader in the hospital, said that Salahuddin has thanked the Indian government for giving him shelter and medical treatment in that country. He said that Salahuddin wants to travel to Singapore for treatment, as Shillong Civil Hospital has no latest facilities of better treatment for heart problems. Salahuddin, however, will take final decision in this regard after the arrival of his wife Hasina Ahmed in India. The family will also decide on whether they would demand his deportation to Bangladesh or they would face legal battle in India, the BNP leader said. About deportation to Bangladesh, he said, “It all depends on his family members now to take a decision if Salauddin should be deported to Bangladesh.”Jony said that Salahuddin also expressed his wish of traveling Singapore for treatment during interrogation of police. BNP’s International Affairs Secretary Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon at press briefing on Saturday said that the party is unaware of any update of its leader Salauddin. “We have not any latest information about Salahuddin. We are depending on the information of foreign media,” he told the briefing held at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the city, five days into his appearance. Earlier, Salahuddin told his relatives in the hospital that he stayed more than two months in a secluded house since his missing on March 10.
