The government would set up medical universities in each divisional headquarters for developing Medicare services across the country, said the Prime Minister on Saturday.
“There will be two new medical universities in Rajshahi and Chittagong. We will gradually set up medical universities in all the divisional headquarters”, she said. The premier was addressing a program organized by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry at Osmani Memorial Auditorium to distribute Best Community Clinic Award 2014 and launch the Interactive Learning Module for community clinic health providers. Sheikh Hasina also criticized the whimsical demands for to set up medical colleges everywhere of the country.
She said. “Medical colleges are necessary, but setting up so many medical colleges is not logical because this is a specialized subject. If this is done indiscriminately, then patient-saving doctors will hardly be produced. We don’t need patient-killing doctor.”
The prime minister also observed that the Awami League established community clinics and the BNP-Jamaat government stopped them.
