Three subcommittees of Jatiya Sangsad under Bangladesh Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (BAPPD) on Saturday in a view-exchange-meeting urged media people to play a conducive role to prevent child marriage, ensure mother health and safe delivery.
“The meeting observed that the trend of child marriage is higher than those areas where media campaign against the child marriage is less,” said a release of the parliament.
The meeting of subcommittees — Mother Health Development and Safe Delivery, Child Marriage and Youth Development — under the project entitled ‘Strengthening Parliament’s Capacity in Integrating Population Issues into Development (SPCPD) was held in the parliament complex with Chief Whip ASM Feroz in the chair.
The SPCPD project, financed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), formerly the United Nations Fund for Population Activities, is being implemented by the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad.
The meeting was told that the Demographic Devidend is still going in Bangladesh and the huge number of the population is almost young generation.
“A massive progress is possible in Bangladesh, if country’s young forces can be utilized properly building them skilled and efficient manpower by imparting them necessary education and technical training,” the release added.
Committee members – Whip Mohammad Shahab Uddin, Rebeka Momin, Mohammad Haibib-e-Millat, Advocate Sanjida Khanam and Umme Kulsum Smrity and officials concerned were present in the view-exchange meeting.
