Covid-19: Country logs 43 deaths, 2454 new cases

Covid-19 claimed 43 lives in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours until Friday morning as the upward march of the virus took the country’s fatalities to 13,032.
The positivity rate which was 13.25% – the highest in 46 days since April 25 this year – on Thursday, almost remained unchanged at 13.24%, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The country logged 2,454 new cases after testing 18,535 samples as the administration of the first dose of the vaccine remains suspended here since April 26.
The new number took Bangladesh’s caseload to 822,849. However, the recovery rate and fatality rate remained unchanged at92.59% and1.58%.
Rajshahi division saw the highest fatalities during the period with the death of 11 people while Chattogram witnessed 10 deaths, Dhaka eight, Khulna seven, Rangpur four, Barishal two, and Mymensingh one.

The government reported 43 new deaths from the disease over a 24-hour period, taking the total to 13,032.
The caseload surged by 2,454 in a day to 822,849, according to the latest data released on Friday.
The recovery count rose to 761,916 after 2,286 patients overcame the illness in the same period. As many as 18,535 samples were tested across the country, yielding a positivity rate of 13.24 percent.
The latest official figures put the recovery rate at 92.59 percent, while the mortality rate stands at 1.58 percent.
Globally, over 174.89 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 3.77 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
