Media role to make people aware about saving energy stressed

Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury has urged the media to play a major role to bring a behavioral change among people in saving energy.
“Media campaign can play a pivotal role in changing behavior of people to save energy side by side the use of energy saving tools” he said while addressing a seminar on “Responsibility in Use of Energy: Role of Media,” organised by Energy Bangla magazine on the occasion of its launching at Dhaka Club in the city.
The seminar was also addressed by energy experts Prof M Tamim, Prof Ijaz Hossain, Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (Sreda) chairman Helal Unddin, its member Siddique Zobair, additional secretary Mohammad Alauddin, and Power Cell director general Mohammad Hossain.
Dr Tawfiq Elahi said Srerda should the lead in campaign to encourage people to bring change in their behavior so that they could be cautious in their use of energy.
He said the saving energy is also a global responsibility and all the countries should play their respective role.
Prof Tamim said there should be an efficient management in the government level for timely implementation of projects so that the people don’t have to buy costly power.
Siddique Zobair said both the technology and behavior of the people can play role in energy saving.
“If energy saving plan and methodology are used in construction of a building, up to 40 percent energy could be saved,” he said. Helal Uddin said the media and Sreda can work together to create awareness among the people to save energy.
