Media role for RMG’s growth urged

Speakers at a discussion here on Monday emphasised strong collaboration between the media and the readymade garment industry to bring the success stories of the sector in the limelight alongside letting the media find out its weaknesses.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) arranged the discussion on the sidelines of the Dhaka Apparel Summit titled ‘Bangladesh RMG 2021: Partnering Media in Development’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Shirin Akhter MP, Mohammad Fazlul Azim, former BGMEA president Abdus Salam Murshedy, Editor and Publisher of The Daily Star Mahfuz Anam, Project Coordinator, PSES, GIZ, Magnus Schmid, President and CEO, Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) Avedis H Seferian, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Editor-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer of Boishakhi Television Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul moderated the session.
Mahfuz Anam said the vision of taking RMG exports from US$ 25 billion to US$ 50 billion is doable and achievable. “You’ve to be tolerant of criticisms. We don’t criticise you to hurt. The criticism is to make you better and better.”
The Daly Star Editor said BGMEA can work with the media to tell stories, and BGMEA should have the capacity to send the correction to
any news that contains wrong information.
“To achieve the target of $50 billion is a struggle of an efficient industry and the media wants to be part of that struggle,” he added.
