Mechanisation of agriculture to increase production emphasised

Agriculture experts at a power tiller distribution ceremony have stressed on mechanisation of agriculture to increase crop output at reduced costs for making farm activities more profitable.
They viewed this at the ceremony held on Pirgachha upazila parisahd premises here for distribution of nine power tillers among the farmers yesterday under the Integrated Agricultural Approaches for Assuring Nutrition and Food Security Project (IANFP).
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) organised the ceremony where incentives in terms of seedling, seed and fertilisers were also distributed among 1,440 flood-hit farmers of the upazila under the post-flood agri-rehabilitation programmes.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Ministry Tipu Munshi, MP, attended the ceremony and distributed the power tillers and incentives among farmers as the chief guest.
With Pirgachha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Aliya Ferdous Jahan in the chair, Upazila Chairman Alhaj Afsar Ali and Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Saiful Islam addressed the ceremony, as special guests.
In his welcome speech, Pirgachha Upazila Agriculture Officer Zahedur Rahman Chowdhury said the present government had been working sincerely for modernising and developing of the agriculture sector to increase crop output and ensure welfare of farmers.
“The agricultural production has been increasing consistently following adoption of the latest technologies under various assistance of the government to ensure food security despite decreasing cultivable land area amid changing climate,” he said.
Narrating various epoch-making steps taken by the present government for developing the agriculture sector, the chief guest suggested farmers for adopting latest technologies using necessary machineries and equipments to further increase food production.
