The MBBS admission test for 2017-18 academic sessions was held at 34 centres in five divisional and district headquarters amid rumour of question paper leakage on Friday.
As many as 82,788 admission-seekers appeared at the test against 3,318 seats at 31 public medical colleges across
the country. There are 3,318 open spots at the 31 state medical colleges and 6,025 places in 74 private colleges.
The examination started at 10am and ended at 11 am.
Mobile phones, calculators, watches and all forms of electronic devices were banned from the examination halls.
Health Minister Mohammed Nasim said there was no chance of questions being leaked from the upcoming MBBS admission examinations.
He called upon the students and the guardians to stay alert about rumour.
Very strict security measures have been taken to prevent leaks, said Nasim during a visit to the Dhaka University Examination Centre on Friday.
“Those who spread rumours are the enemies of meritorious students, he said adding, “So, don’t pay heed to any rumours over question leak,” the minister said.
The applicants and the guardians said that the syndicates spread a rumour that the MBBS admission test question papers were leaked. Some of the members of the syndicate called many students to send money in exchange of question papers.
“We noticed there was an disparity between those who retook the tests and those taking them for the first time,” the Health Minister said. “Nearly 60 to 70 percent of re-takers end up getting accepted and leave private institutions.”
“So we decided to deduct a few points from the re-takers and the Supreme Court has allowed it,” he said.
