Mayor urges journalists to stand beside Govt for country’s development

Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation AJM Nasir Uddin called upon journalists to stand beside the Awami League led government for development and advancement of the country.
“The government has taken up various programmes to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed country by 2041,” he said.
The city mayor said this as the chief guest at the biennial conference of Chittagong Union of Journalist (CUJ) held at Chittagong Press club auditorium last afternoon.
Outlining the importance of media for strengthening democracy, Nasir said the present government does not interfere in news media and media in country are functioning independently.
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Manzurul Ahsan Bulbul inaugurated the function while CUJ President Reaz Haider Chowdhury presided over it.
Bulbul congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for declaring the much-waited 9th wage board for the media employees. He also congratulated Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and State Minister for Information Tarana Halim for issuing gazette of the 9th wage board.
Vice-President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) Shahidul Alam, Secretary General of BFUJ Omar Faruk, President of Dhaka Union of Journalist Shaban Mahmud, President of Chittagong Press Club Kolim Sarwar, CPC General Secretary Suklal Das, Joint Secretary of BFUJ Tapan Chakaraborti, among others, addressed the function.
