Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon has urged residents of the city to dispose of their household garbage at night.
He made the call while launching the ‘Clean Dhaka 2016’ campaign on Thursday. Khokon highlighted the inconveniences caused by daytime waste removal to city dwellers.
He urged women to dispose of household waste in dustbins after 7 pm so that it could be removed at night to ensure a clean morning next day.
The campaign was launched before the ward 10 councillor’s office in Motijheel. The mayor urged citizens to come forward to transform Dhaka into a clean city.
“We spend more time on the streets and at workplaces than we do at home. So, we need to be aware of the necessity of keeping roads clean as well.”
They mayor has already undertaken a yearlong plan to clean up the southern part of Dhaka city in 2016.
Terming Dhaka as ‘a city of emotion, love and compassion’, he said if its residents came forward, the ‘enormous amount of work’ needed to clean the city would be made easier.
