Violation of polls code: Mayor aspirant Manzoor show caused by EC

 The Returning officer has served a show cause notice to BNP- backed Chittagong City Corporation mayor aspirant Manzoor Alam for taking out a motor and bike procession in the city after allocation of election symbol on Friday.
He started the campaign on Air Port Road in Laldiar Char on Friday afternoon after getting his election symbol ‘orange.’
Hours after the start of his campaign, the returning officer sent him the show-cause notice around 8:30pm.Assistant Returning Officer Shafikur Rahman told media that Monzoor violated the election code of conduct by taking out the procession of bikes and cars.
 He said the BNP-backed candidate was asked to explain within 24 hours why steps should not be taken against him for violating the code. The EC has the power to cancel candidature, or award prison term or impose fine or both for violating the code of conduct.Manjur received another show-cause notice earlier for inaugurating election camp at dewanhat before the stipulated time.
 Two other heavyweight candidates Awami League-endorsed AJM Nasir Uddin and Jatiya Party’s Solaiman Alam Sheth were also served show-cause notices for violating the election code of conduct earlier, sources said.
Manzoor’s polls campaign in city

The EC allotted the BNP-endorsed candidate ‘orange’ symbol as no one else sought it.Ruling Awami League-backed AJM Nasir Uddin will contest the polls with ‘elephant’ symbol, which he got through a lottery.The BNP hopes for a repeat of the 2010 polls when Alam defeated Awami League-backed ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury by 95,000 votes BNP’s Abdullah Al Noman and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury have been campaigning for him since Tuesday.
After offering prayers at his locality, Alam told reporters that he was waiting for election symbol to hit the campaign trail.BNP Vice-Chairman Noman said Alam could work for the people rising above party interest.
