Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Syeed Khokon has asked to resume vehicular movement on CR Dutta road of city’s Panthapatha area immediately.
The mayor also ordered to complete the earth filling work at the collapsed part of under-construction site of National Bank Limited (NBL) Tower with sand.
Khokon came up with this assertion on Monday
while visiting the accident spot near Sundarban Hotel in city’s Karwan Bazar area.
He said, “We gave importance on people’s safety. So, the authorities closed the road from SAARC Fountain to Panthapath- soon after the collapse.”
“Other roads were reopened as those were risk-free, but CR Dutta road remained closed for safety issue that caused suffering to the pedestrians and residents of the area. So, the authorities concerned are ordered to reopen the road in the afternoon,” he added.
NBL chairman Joynul Haque Sikdar claimed that there was no flaw in the under-constructed building.
According to him, the collapse was caused due to the recent earthquakes.
About the claim, mayor said there must be flaws otherwise the collapse would not happen. However, a probe committee has been formed in this regard it will submit their report within half days.
Contractor Mum Imprex and SM Construction and Developers CEO M Salahuddin told newsmen that they will reopen the road as early as possible and hoped that it will be done this afternoon.
