Maya for standing beside calamity-affected people

Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Wednesday asked the district relief and rehabilitation officials to take preparedness and stand by the people during natural calamities.
“A number of districts have already been hit by tornadoes and floods this year, so officials and employees should work unitedly for protecting people’s lives and property,” he said while exchanging views with district relief and rehabilitation officials at Disaster Management Directorate here.
Disaster Management and Relief Secretary M Shah Kamal was present as special guest at the function with Director General of Disaster Management Directorate M Riaz Ahmed in the chair.
The minister said all precautionary measures should be taken to face natural disasters like tornadoes and floods.
He said adequate quantity of relief materials-rice, cash incentives, VGF assistance and corrugated iron sheets-have been kept preserved at district level to aid the affected people during any calamity.
The disaster management minister also asked concerned officials to prepare all cyclone shelters across the country and directed them to stand beside the affected people with relief materials.
Maya said the disaster management ministry is in close contact with flood and tornado affected districts, saying negligence in serving people will not be allowed.
