No more than five people at the institutional level and no more than two people at the individual level will be allowed to enter the Central Shaheed Minar on the day of International Mother Language Day and Shaheed Dibosh on February 21.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Shafiqul Islam urged the people after visiting the security arrangement in Central Shaheed Minar and its surrounding area on Thursday.
He said that traffic in Dhaka University and Central Shaheed Minar area will be controlled as usual. Everyone’s safety will be ensured.
In special circumstances, we are going to celebrate the International Mother Language Day this time. Corona situation all around, vaccination is going on, there is fear in it, he added.
In such a situation, we would expect that fewer people would come to pay homage to the language movement martyrs than at any other time. Not a single person can enter the Shaheed Minar without a mask, he further added.
The DMP commissioner said that adequate security measures have been taken at three levels this time. Besides the police, there will also be members of the Elite Force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The Cantral Shaheed Minar and Dhaka University area will be monitored by CCTV cameras every inch. Monitoring will be done round the clock from DMP control room. Apart from this, bomb disposal unit, SWAT and other units will remain active, he said.
Asked whether militant activities were being monitored on the occasion of February 21, the DMP boss said militants usually an attempt to draw international attention to such days, even if it was a small incident. Martyr’s Day is a great place for the emotions of Bengalis. International attention can be drawn here even a small incident can happen.
But their cyber units are active to monitor militant activities or movements. We have the highest preparation. We think they will not have the courage to do such a thing.
