Mawa-Kewrakandi ferry service resumes after 9 hrs

Ferry plying on the Mawa-Kewrakandi route resumed on Wednesday morning after a disruption for nine hours due to dense fog.The ferry service on the country’s largest route had remained suspended since 12:00am for poor visibility caused by thick fog. Six ferries loaded with 110 vehicles with about 500 passengers who got stuck in the midstream of the Padma River started for destinations around 9:00am as visibility improved with disappearing of fog.Besides, 500 vehicles got stranded on both sides of the river because of the disruption, creating immense suffering to the commuters. Sirajul Haque, manager of Mawa Ghat, said six ferries-Shah Makhdum, Kakoli, Thobal, Lenting, Raniganj and Roypura-had to make halt in the mid-river due to thick fog.
