UNB, Munshiganj :
Ferry movement on the Mawa-Kawrakandi route was restarted on Friday morning after a disruption for about 10 hours as the neighborhood remained shrouded in thick fog. Chandra Sheikh Ray, assistant manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Mawa office, said they kept suspended ferry service and plying of the water vessels from about 12:00 am due to blurred visibility caused by dense fog. Four ferries with 500 passengers and several hundred vehicles on board were forced to anchor at the middle point of the river Padma to avoid accident, he added.
Around 400 goods-laden vehicles, private cars and passenger buses had to remain in wait at both the ghats for the halt to ferry operation. The suspension of the ferry service caused huge traffic jam on the both sides of the river ghat, causing immense suffering to the passengers.
