BSS, Dhaka :
Awami League presidium member and Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury said a mass upsurge should be created to resist those cowardice elements who killed innocent people in the name of religion.
“Those who killed people by hurling petrol bombs on the holy night of Shab-e-Barat had murdered people by grenade attack on the holy night of Ashura,” she said.
The senior Awami League leader said this on Monday while speaking as the chief guest at an extended meeting of Dhaka City Awami League (AL) at its Bangabandhu Avenue office in the city.
Dhaka City AL organised the meeting to make success the party’s November 2 public rally to be organised at Suhrawardy Udyan to mark the Jail Killing Day on November 3.
Acting president of Dhaka City AL MA Aziz chaired the meeting, also addressed, among others, by Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Dhaka City AL general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram), joint general secretary Advocate Quamrul Islam, vice-presidents Sheikh Bazlur Rahman and Mukul Chowdhury, joint secretary Awlad Hossain, organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad and publicity secretary Abdul Haque Sabuj.
In an oblique reference to BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and her eldest son Tarique Rahman, Matia Chowdhury posed a question as to why the trial of those who misappropriated money of the orphans and siphoned off the money abroad through money laundering could not be held in Bangladesh.
