Sylhet Thunder posted a massive 80-run win over Khulna Tigers in their Twenty20 match of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday.
Sent into bat first, Sylhet Thunder piled up a mammoth total of 232 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs and then bundled out Khulna Tigers for 152 off 18.3 overs.
Sylhet Thunder had a shaky start as opener Abdul Mazid (2) was bowled out by Robbie Frylinck when Sylhet’s score was just 11.
Then Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles repaired the damage contributing together 150 runs for the second wicket stand before Charles was trapped leg before wicket by Shahidul Islam when Sylhet total was 161 for the loss of two wickets.
Andre Fletcher remained unbeaten with 103. His 57-ball stormy innings was studded with five sixes and 11 fours. It was the first century in Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Chrles hammered a hurricane 90. His 38-ball windy innings was belted with five sixes and 11 fours.
After dismissal of Chrales, Mohammad Mithun came at the crease but his innings was short-lived as he (3) was trapped leg before wicket by Rilee Rossouw when the team’s score was 164 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Fletcher and Mosaddek Hossain added 39 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Mosaddek Hossain (11) was caught Rossouw off Robiul Haque when Sylhet’s total was 203 for the loss of four wickets.
Robbie Frylinck got two wickets at the cost of 37 runs, while Shafiul Islam, Robiul Haque and Shahidul Islam picked up one wicket each conceding 44, 44 and 48 runs respectively.
Later, Rossouw hit a quick-fire 52. His 32-ball innings was decorated with four sixes and four fours.
Frylinck struck a polished 44. His 20-ball knock saw six fours and two sixes.
Opener Saif Hossain hit a run-a-ball 20 with two fours.
K Santokie grabbed three wickets instead of 37 runs, while Ebadat Hossain, Monir Hossain bagged a pair of wickets each for 17 and 31 runs respectively.
Besides, Naveen-ul-Haque took one at the cost of 21 runs.
Andre Fletcher of Sylhet Thunder was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding innings.
