Rangpur Rangers registered a massive seven-wicket win over Sylhet Thunder in their Twenty20 cricket match of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Monday.
Chasing Sylhet Thunder’s modest total of 133 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs, Rangpur Rangers romped home making 134 for the loss of three wickets when they had 16 balls to spare.
Rangpur Rangers had a poor start as they lost opener Shane Watson (1) when Rangpur’s total was just five.
Then Mohammad Naim and Cameron Delport mended the innings contributing together 99 runs in the second wicket stand before Delport was caught by Nayeem Hasan off Naveen-ul-Haq when Rangpur’s total was 104 for the loss of two wickets.
Delport hammered a typhoon 63. His 28-ball innings was studded with five sixes and six fours.
Then Lewis Gregory came at the crease but he could stay for a short period as he (4) was caught by Andre Fletcher off Naveen-ul-Haq when Rangpur’s score was 112 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Mohammad Naim and Mohammad Nabi helped their team to reach the winning target.
Naim remained unbeaten with 38. His 50-ball innings saw two fours and two sixes.
Mahammad Nabi remained unbeaten with 18. He hit two fours and a sixer in his 12-ball knock.
Naveen-ul-Haq bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 13 runs, while Ebadat Hossain took one wicket for 12 runs.
Earlier, left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman played the key role to restrict Sylhet to a meek total. Mustafizur Rahman grabbed three wickets instead of 10 runs. Mustafizur Rahman was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Lewis Gregory, Arafat Sunny, Mohammad Nabi and Mukidul Islam got one wicket each for 21, 24, 31 and 43 runs respectively.
Mohammad Mithun of Sylhet Thunder was the only batsman, who fought back against the tight bowling attack of Rangpur Rangers. Rutherford, Mosaddek Hossain and Sohag Gazi added 16, 15 and 12 runs respectively to the Sylhet Thunder total.
