Wide-ranging creation of social awareness could be the effective means of stopping polythene use in the kitchen markets and elsewhere, said the speakers at a meeting of anti polythene taskforce held at the conference room of Directorate of Environment (DoE) here yesterday.
A nine member task force was formed in Khulna recently to lunch anti polythene drives in Khulna by the first week of June.
The task force was formed headed by DoE director Dr. Mallick Anwar Hossain to watch polythene use and intervene regularly if there is any attempt to produce polythene and it’s trading and selling. The government has taken decision to form the task forces across the country to campaign against the use and trading of polythene as it is harming environment.
Director of DoE, also the convener of task force Dr. Mallick Anwar Hossain presided over the meeting while other members of the committee attended the meeting.
The speakers underscored the need for huge campaign among business organizations, officials of the organizations concerned, public representatives and common people for stopping polythene use.
To make the campaign a total success, the meeting decided to hold a seminar before the World Environment Day on June 5, 2015.
Mass campaign including anti polythene leaflets distribution, miking, press conference and views exchange with the students of educational institutions will also be held.
The meeting also decided to campaign using of jute goods for replacing polythene.
